RAILWAY LINE ATHINA - LAVRIO: The first contract for the construction and operation of the railway line, which would connect Athina with Lavrion, was signed on 4 May 1882, which also provided for a fork from Iraklio to Kifisia. On 22 June 1882, the contract was ratified by law and in December of the same year the Sidirodromi Attikis SA (Attika Railways) was founded with a share capital of 5.400.000 drachmas, which would be paid by the Lavrio Metallurgies Company. On 4 February 1885, the first section from Attikis Square to Kifisia, 15 km long, was inaugurated, and on 20 June 1885 the inauguration of the second section Iraklio - Lavrion took place. In the first years the passengers from Omonia (beginning of the 3rd September street) were transported by bus to Attikis Square and since 1889 the starting point was transferred from Attikis Square to Lavrion Square. With the establishment of the Ilektriki Eteria Metaforon HEM (Electric Transport Company) on 1 April 1926 , it undertakes the operation of the Athina - Kifisia line, with the obligation of its modernization, which included its conversion to a normal range, its connection to the line of the EHS Pireas - Athina through an underground tunnel, which would connect the stations of Omonia and Attiki. With the start of the works in 1926, the starting point was transferred again from Lavrion Square to Attikis Square with the promotion of passengers being done by tram of HEM. In 1929 SPAP acquired the section Neo Iraklio - Lavrion 56 km length, and HEM would undertake the construction of the section Aghioi Anarghiri - Neo Iraklio for the connection of the Lavrion line with that of SPAP. The connection was completed in 1931, but the starting point of the line had already been transferred since 1929, to the Peloponnese station in Pireas as the SPAP trains until 1931 used the unifying line from The Peloponnese Station (Athina) to Attiki Station. Since 1931 onwards, the fork at Aghioi Anarghiri was used. On 8 August 1938, the last route (Therion) from Athina to Kifisia took place, when the first section of the Athina - Lavrion route ceased to exist. After the occupation and with the withdrawal of german troops, the line Pireas - Aghioi Anarghiri - Lavrion suffered damages, resulting in the reopening on 1 May 1952. In the summer of 1957 the operation of the line for passenger transport was interrupted and some time later, the line was permanently abolished, without dismantling the lines, which in many sections still exist today.
