RAILWAY LINE PAPOULI - PLATI:
On 22 July 1909, the line of the Eteria Ellinikon Sidirodromon EES (Company of Greek Railways) arrived at the village of Papapouli, which was the northern border of Greece at that time, implementing the line Pireas - Demerli - Papapouli (P.D.S.). Many efforts for cooperation with the Turkish side for the construction of a unifying line, which would connect the P.D.S. line with that of C.O. Thessaloniki - Monastiri, did not completed. With the liberation of Macedonia after the Balkan Wars, the line Thessaloniki - Monastiri was located almost all within the Greek territory. Against this background, on 12 January 1914, a contract was signed in Paris between the Ambassador of Greece and the President of the French company Batignolles, for the construction of a unifying line between Papapouli and Plati stations. On 26 May 1916, the inauguration of the connection took place at Plati. On 15 June 1916 the exploitation of the Line Papapouli - Katerini begins and after a long delay, due to the use of the railway network by the allied forces during the First World War, on 14 March 1918 begins the exploitation of the section Katerini - Plati. In this way the railway connection of the two largest cities of Greece is completed.
